The designers symbolically translated this logical system into a pure and symbolic installation where a field of simple and scientific structures take on various functions and nuances depending on the orientation and perspective of the viewer, just like the Korean alphabet.
Nation’s first Korean Pavilion About Architecture & Design By/For/Of Korea
Back View, Korean Pavilion designed by New York-based Manifesto Architecture
Designed by New York City based architecture firm, Manifesto Architecture, the Korean Pavilion for Modern Atlanta’s 2011 Design is Human Week event is an architectural celebration of Korean culture and design. The firm’s two principals, Jeeyong An and Sang Hwa Lee analyzed the high level of science and structural logic behind the design of the Korean alphabet, which consists of vowels and consonants that interdepend on each other in a very structural and tectonic manner.
Korean Pavilion concept is based on the Korean alphabet
The designers symbolically translated this logical system into a pure and symbolic installation where a field of simple and scientific structures take on various functions and nuances depending on the orientation and perspective of the viewer, just like the Korean alphabet.
The pavilion will not only be an attraction in itself, but it is also the venue in which Modern Atlanta’s exhibition on exceptional modern Korean architecture will be held. The exhibition features many projects that were selected through the “Architecture by/for/of Korea” competition, which was an open call for young and talented designers to submit work that were related to Korea in various ways. The projects were all carefully hand-picked by a prestigious international jury of practicing architects and scholars.
The pavilion is made of materials from the Lucent and Marmo line of HI-MACS® Acrylic Solid Surface which works with a high capacity material for its inherent combination of light and the unique thermoformable properties, sponsored by LG Hausys.

More on the Korean Pavilion Concept
This concept is symbolized in the Korean pavilion with its matrix of columns that not only take on a very different identity but portray different functions and spiritual nuances depending on the direction from which it is observed.World Design Capital and Seoul, Korea
In 2010, Seoul was designated as World Design Capital (WDC) by International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid). Since Seoul has prepared various design projects for urban development ranging from education to industries, policies, facilities, and the designing of the city itself.
